Repeat Prescriptions

Arrangements for the collection of repeat prescriptions

When a repeat prescription or other medicine is requested, it is often necessary for the doctor to check if we want to see you about it.

The doctor may want to make sure the medicine is working properly for you, that there are no serious side effects, and any other necessary tests have been done.
We want to make sure you get the correct medicine, the one the doctor originally intended.

We DO NOT take prescriptions over the phone for the following reasons:

  • To avoid mistakes
  • To avoid blocking the phone lines when patients are trying to make appointments
  • To make the staff more available to you in the surgery

Please allow 2 working days for us to arrange your repeat prescriptions. Your prescription will often be/may be ready sooner but we cannot guarantee this.

To request a repeat prescription please do one of the following:

1. Keep the tear off half of the previous prescription, tick the drug you require and return the slip to the surgery.

2. Fill in one of the forms provided on the reception desk.

3. Fax your request to us on
(01246) 240781 BOLSOVER
(01623) 810372 GLAPWELL

4. Post your request to us.

5. Email your request to us via our online form - CLICK HERE
This will then be sent electronically to the surgery via a secure connection.

PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR MEDICINES YOUR DOCTOR HAS NOT PREVIOUSLY PRESCRIBED FOR YOU.

Dispensing Patients

Patients who receive their medication directly from us may collect their drugs when ordering if they call between 11.30am -12.30pm and 1.30pm -3.30pm. There may be varying waiting times and subject to drugs being in stock but you may need to check later if the doctor needs to see you. At other times our dispensers will be busy dealing with prescriptions for patients who are seeing the doctor.

Prescriptions / Medicine Wastage
More than £1 million pounds worth of unused medicines were wasted in North Derbyshire last year. You can help us to spend money where it is most needed by ordering only the medicines you require on your repeat prescription.

Do not hold on to medicine just because you may need it on another occasion in case the problem comes back.

Do not hoard medicines - this can lead to accidents. Do not share your medicines with other people.

Did You Know:

The same list of medicines will appear attached to your prescription each time you receive a new prescription, whether you order all items or not.
If any medicine is stopped or you have too much, return the medicine to the nearest pharmacy where it will be destroyed.
Pharmacists can't reuse returned medicine as they cannot guarantee that it has been properly stored whilst in someone's home. Many medicines are affected by heat, light and water vapour in the air.
Some people collected their medicines from the dispensary or chemist but then don't take them Rather than doing this and wasting medicines, talk to your doctor or dispenser and let them know if you no longer take some of the items on your list. If the doctor knows that a medicine is not working for you they may be able to make other suggestions to help you cope with or manage a particular problem with your health.
